Description:

The Arleigh A. Burke Chair in Strategy at the Center for Strategic and International Studies is seeking a highly motivated research intern for the Summer term. The internship provides an opportunity to work with Anthony H. Cordesman on a major research publication. The Burke Chair is one of the premier sources for analysis of key strategic challenges facing the United States and the world. There is very little administrative work involved in this internship. The intern will largely be in charge of their research project, and will for the most part be researching and writing all day every day. The Burke Chair publishes very frequently and we expect a high level of commitment. The Intern will work on either 1 of two possible projects: (1) ‘Lessons Learned in the Israel – Lebanon War’. This will be a detailed, highly focused and impartial analysis of the conflict and the military/political lessons learned.

(2) ‘Iraq’s Sectarian and Ethnic Violence and Its Evolving Insurgency’. This is an ongoing report that will be converted into a 2 volume book later this year. This is an extremely detailed and up-to-date look at the ongoing dynamics of the continuing insurgency / ethnic conflict in Iraq.

Please email a resume, cover letter, writing sample (~5 pgs.) and 1-2 recommendations to amausner@csis.org

Qualification:

Strong familiarity with International Security issues and the Middle East. M.A. candidates strongly encouraged to apply. Full Time (35 hours/week) only. This internship is unpaid. Dates: May 15th-August 31st. Longer-term internships are possible.
