Intern at the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA)

Summer 2007: Mid May through August

The Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs welcomes college and graduate
school interns to assist with a variety of social policy issues
affecting immigrants. Policy areas may include language access,
workforce development, health care access, education, crime prevention,
civic participation, human services, communication and technology
sharing, and long-term strategic planning.

Candidates should possess good research and writing abilities, as well
as good interpersonal skills. Individuals who are bi/multi-lingual are
strongly encouraged to apply. A background or interest in New York City
government, social welfare, immigration policy, or communications and
outreach is desirable. Ideal candidate must be able to commit 30-35
hours a week.

Responsibilities include:

*       Research best practices and write reports on findings
*       Summarize legislation and policy issues
*       Assist with media outreach, press conferences, and publications
*       Review news for relevant articles
*       Coordinate and attend inter-agency meetings
*       Arrange venues and hospitality for meetings
*       Write meeting reports and draft memos plus other correspondence
*       Manage phone calls and provide general administrative support to
staff

This internship does not offer a stipend but is a great opportunity to
learn about city government and issues. Interns will also have the
opportunity to attend seminars and special events with City officials
throughout the semester.
